Decorating your nightstands can seem like a small detail, but it can actually have a significant impact on the overall aesthetics of your bedroom. It’s one of the first places the eye is drawn as you enter the room and helps create that ambiance you are looking for!

Sometimes decorating this space can be tricky as you are looking for both style and function. It’s a space that tends to be a drop zone for clutter as well as a collector of all the cups.

There are many ways to style a nightstand, but here are a few of our tips to help create a functional yet designer-inspired look for your nightstand, big or small!

1. Start with a lamp

I always start with choosing a lamp that matches the style of the room. If you lean more modern, a concrete or ceramic lamp with a wide bottom and triangular shape shade will go great with your other modern decor. If you lean more traditional, a glass lamp with a rounder shade may fit your style better.

With large nightstands like mine pictured above, you will want to be sure your lamp is a substantial size as to anchor the space. If you have one too small, it will be lost in the overall design.

2. Add Florals

Adding florals to any space instantly brings warmth and texture that I love to incorporate throughout my home. Matching these to the style of the space or even changing out with the seasons and holidays is sure to keep your space looking fresh and vibrant!

3. Storage

Since this space tends to collect things, I love adding storage so that you can hide away any clutter or have a place to quickly grab things you need. You can add decor boxes, bowls or even jewelry trays like I have opted for in the first photo. I love having a place to put my jewelry and TV remotes that I can quickly grab as needed.

4. Personal Touches

Once you have all the staples in place, I love to add in personal touches! That can be in the form of a book, decor object, candle, or picture + frame. In the first photo, I opted for a large candle that scales with the large lamp as well as one of my favorite design books by Amber Lewis, Made for Living.

Lastly, play with textures and colors. A monochromatic or single-texture nightstand can feel flat and uninviting. Using different materials like wood, metal, ceramics, and fabrics can bring in a lot of visual interest.

In essence, getting that designer-inspired nightstand doesn’t have to be hard! It's about achieving a balance between aesthetics, functionality, and personal style. Happy styling!
