How to Decorate an Entryway Console Table
The entryway is the first impression and the introduction of your style as it’s the first thing guests (and you!) see when stepping into your home. I love changing tabletop décor pieces out seasonally to create that perfect welcoming space as people come through our door.
In this article, we'll show you how to transform your console table from functional to fabulous with some easy tips and tricks. Whether your space is large or small, styling your console well can create the inviting entryway you’ve always dreamed of!
1. Choose a console that coordinates with the style of your home
The entryway is the first impression and the introduction of your style, as it’s the first space guests see when they enter your home. The console table should (and can!) be the star of the show. Choose one that coordinates well and flows with the overall style of your home. When shopping for entryway tables, consider the size of the space as you will want to be sure it’s size appropriate for your space. If your entry décor is too small or too large, it may not provide the welcoming feel you desire.
Consider the best function for the space - - Do you need extra storage? How much storage? Or is the purpose of this solely for aesthetics? This can help narrow down between using a console table, a console table with drawers or a console with cabinets.
Pro Tip: You can combine two, 2-door cabinets to get the same overall effect of a large, more substantial (and expensive) console cabinet.
2. Create a focal point with large mirror or artwork
Once you have purchased your console table, it’s important to think about a focal point. A mirror is an interior designer’s secret weapon; it can help make a smaller space appear larger or a dark space appear brighter.
If you already have a large, well-lit entryway, a large piece of artwork can create the focal point of the design, as well. We like using artwork that is simple and ties together colors in the space to create a cohesive feel.
Pro Tip: Layering framed artwork in front of a mirror can also create a warm but modern look.
3. Add accent lighting and a vase
Not only is this stylish, but functional, too! Having a light available as soon as you walk in the door is a huge help and, with the right lighting source, you can create the perfect ambience for your entryway. Lamps also create visual interest to the space adding varying heights, textures, and colors.
We will never, NOT suggest adding florals and/or greenery… whether that’s with real or faux florals like some of our favorites here. Florals and greenery make a space feel warm and inviting by mimicking the comforting feel of nature. It is also the easiest décor item to swap seasonally for an easy way to ensure your inside feels like the outside!
Pro Tip: You can either add two lamps for a symmetrical look on either side or create more interest by adding one lamp and one vase on each side, as pictured below.
4. Texture and Dimension with final touches
Details matter! Don’t overlook the final touches that can really make a big difference. Decorative items such as book stacks, candles, “catch-all” bowls, decorative beads, and storage baskets can bring everything together to create a perfectly finished look.
Experiment with different combinations until you find the perfect balance. For example, mixing a sleek marble vase with a rustic wooden tray can create a compelling contrast that draws the eye in. Consider incorporating elements such as wood, metal, glass, ceramics, or even fabrics like velvet or linen. Adding in family photos, sentimental keepsakes, or fun and quirky décor items that better reflect your personality can create that inviting entryway you’ve always dreamed of and can be a great conversation starter for your guests.
Pro Tip: The best entryways have unique and sentimental items - - You want this space to reflect your style and unique family!
Getting that designer-inspired entryway doesn’t have to be hard! By following these four tips, your entry console table has the potential to become a statement piece that sets the tone for your entire home. Happy styling!
